Pixie Market Picks

I'm extra pumped to share today's post with you guys because I did a fun editorial-like shoot for y'all.  I'm partnering up with Pixie Market for my latest.  For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, you're in for a serious treat.  They carry the most unique designs!  Their entire site is legit - I swear, each and every piece is a gem IMHO.  I'm wearing their Fiona Dress below.  Isn't it beautiful?  As you can see, it's a flowy mini with lace cut-outs and chiffon balloon sleeves.
I only got one piece from their site, but I pretty much want everything they sell!  Here's my wishlist:

I haven't done a look for less in quite some time now so I'm extra excited to share today's find with y'all.  Mansur Gavriel's bucket bag ($595) is an exquisite yet pricey classic made of tanned black leather.  It comes with a detachable wallet, adjustable strap, and customizable interior - you choose from 8 different shades. Due to its popularity, the bag has sold out completely - it's apparently being restocked later this year? Who knows when though!  Lucky for you guys, I found a fabulous alternative for a fraction of the price.

Baginc sells a similar piece HERE for $109, which is $486 cheaper (!!!) As you can see, it looks a lot like the Gavriel, and by "a lot," I mean pretty much identical.  Let's talk differences though! The designer-inspired version is made of calf leather and is slightly smaller than the original - here are dimensions for you guys:  11.8" H x 9.8" W x 5.9" D vs.  12.25" H x 10" W x 6" D.  It doesn't come with a detachable wallet, and obviously, it's missing the Mansur Gavriel logo.  If those aren't dealbreakers for y'all, I highly recommend this bag!  It's super cute and versatile - perfect for daily wear. If you get sick of carrying your everyday tote, you can swap it out with this!

What do you guys think of this look for less?  Is this something you would carry?

Workwear Wednesday: The Collared A-line Dress

I am officially obsessed with Betsey Johnson.  I was a huge fan of her designs when I was younger, but I stopped shopping at her store because it was totally out of my budget.  I was in high-school so yeah, I was perpetually broke...which actually kind of sounds like my life right now, ha!  In all seriousness, I found her line to be a bit much (borderline tacky) at one point.  I don't know what I was thinking though because I pretty much love everything she sells now.  Confession:  I spent a good hour browsing her online store last night.  Thank god for sales!  I enjoy looking at full-priced items, but unless it's a designer bag or coat, I probably won't buy it.

That brings me to *drum roll, please* my new dress!  Isn't it freakin' adorable?  The collar is accented with faux-pearls, and the three-quarter sleeves are cuffed.  The dress is made of a polyester/cotton/spandex blend so it has quite a bit of give.  It's an a-line dress so it flatters all body types (reinforcing tip 6 of my "9 Ways to Cover Muffin Top" article)!  I scored this gem for $56.99, which is still pricey, but a good deal considering it was $168 originally.  For those of you interested in this dress, you can still purchase it HERE for $55.99 + free shipping at Saks Off Fifth.  Oh, and FYI, I'm wearing a size 4.

Color Combo: Beige + Gray

Hello, hello, hello!  I hope you guys had an amazing weekend with lots of R&R.  To start the week off with a (very polished) bang, I featured a chic yet casual ensemble for y'all on Sensible Stylista. I centered my latest around my favorite knit from Madewell.  I absolutely love shopping at their store because their clothing is effortlessly stylish.  Tip:  make sure you go straight to the clearance section in the back.  They usually have stuff - that's already reduced - on sale for an additional 40% off! On top of that discount, you get an extra 15% off if you're a college student or teacher; just make sure you remember to bring a valid ID.

Moving on, I've been really into neutrals as of late so I decided to stick with a classic two-tone color scheme for today's look.  I paired my top with gray skinnies and threw on nude wedges to elongate - these shoes are a godsend because they give me both height and comfort.  If you want your legs to look longer, find shoes that match your skin color to create a long, uninterrupted line. I threw on a beige moto jacket for warmth and carried a Celine-inspired bag to match.  I accessorized with a sophisticated statement necklace to top off my look.

The Burberry Poncho: My First Designer Purchase

I've always been a huge fan of ponchos!  I picked this baby up wayyyyy back in the day at an upscale boutique in Pittsburgh.  It was actually my first designer purchase.  I'm proud to say that it was money well spent.  I've worn this baby for 12+ years, and it's still in perfect condition.  For today's OOTD, I paired my poncho with snakeskin leggings (courtesy of Hue) and sexy over-the-knee boots. I really like the texture play of today's ensemble, but I guess I'm biased, ha!

Workwear Wednesday: The Plaid Tunic

I'm super excited to partner up with Gentle Fawn again on SS.  If you missed my previous collab with them, clicky here!  Anywho, I centered today's OOTD around my new plaid tunic courtesy of GF. I paired the piece with a mauve cardigan and wore accessories to match.  As y'all can see, I'm all about simple color schemes as of late!  To top things off, I threw on a cute necklace for a bit of pizzazz. BTW, I'm sorry I look a little off today - I'm not feeling very well so I look a bit "eh."  Apologies!
Here's my tunic sans cardi!  Isn't the print super cute?  I absolutely love wearing this baby because it's stylish AND comfortable.  A solid tunic is a must-have in my book because it's perfect for a lazy day! You just throw one on and pair it with leggings and boots for a quick but fab ensemble.
Also, just in case this tunic didn't strike your fancy, here are other adorable versions for your browsing pleasure:

Find of the Day: The Cable-Knit Cardigan ($44.99)

Soooo, I know I don't usually blog on Tuesdays, but I had to post today because I found THE most amazing cardigan on sale at Saks Off 5th.  I needed to treat myself - I've been super stressed as of late - so I went to Tanger Outlets to get my shop on.  Lucky for you guys, this sweater's available online for the same price.  As I'm sure y'all know, I'm a huge fan of long outerwear for a variety of reasons. If you need a refresher, refer back to my article, "9 Ways to Hide Muffin Top with Fashion."
This cardigan is currently on sale for $44.99 here - you're getting 67% off since it was originally $139. I promise that it's worth every penny.  I've seen $45+ jackets at Forever 21, and there's no comparison in quality.  You will ooze serious steeze (style + ease).  It's comfortable, cute, and versatile. The fit's on the loose side - think super stylish boyfriend cardi - so size down.  I bought an xs, and it fits me perfectly!  The faux-fur collar doesn't shed at all, and it looks "expensive," which is really important because I'm allergic to all things cheap-looking, ha.
As always, let me know if you have any questions! I'm here for you guys 24/7.  Don't be afraid to hit me up with styling questions.

Good Row Clothing

Alright guys, I have a really strange story to tell y'all today.  Last night, I got pickpocketed for the first time...in the suburbs.  I mean, talk about irony.  I lived in NYC for 2 years and Baltimore for god knows how long, and I've NEVER gotten robbed.  Then, last night, somebody bumped into me at Walmart and totally jacked my wallet.  I was standing by the dairy section when I realized it was gone.  I totally flipped out!  Someone directed me to the manager, and she told me to call the cops.  I got in touch with them, and they told me to wait up front.  I was actually really surprised that they got there so quickly - mad props to them.  Anywho, after I told them what happened, they took down my number and told me that they'd hit me up!  I was waiting in the car, pissed at Bank of America for making me wait so long - I was trying to cancel my credit cards - when I got a call from the officer saying he found my wallet (!!!!!!)

Apparently, the thief took my wallet, opened it, stared at it for a few seconds, then zipped it back up, threw it to the side near the exit, and left. Insert a huge WTF here, ha.  Yeah, I don't know what happened.  I was carrying $100 in cash along with gift cards but nothing was missing.  It was all very strange. Well, I guess I have really good luck? Anywho, lesson learned.  Always, always, always keep your guard up!  I was/am hyper alert in NY and Baltimore but didn't think twice about a tiny suburban town.

Anywho, that's that.  Let's talk fashion now!  I'm partnering up with Good Row Clothing today on Sensible Stylista for my OOTD.  Based in downtown LA, their clothing is classic yet distinct, and as a HUGE plus, they're socially responsible - they donate 10% of their profits to the homeless.  In fact, as of 1/13/16, they've donated $837.51 to the Downtown Womens Center in LA.  They give to the aforementioned organization because they're located near Skid Row, and they want to do more for their neighbors.  They've also partnered up with Carbon Checkout so that their customers can purchase carbon credits ($1 = 147 lbs of Carbon Offset) to offset the environmental impact of their purchase - their carbon funds are currently backing the MP Greenwood Landfill Gas to Energy project.
For today's look, I centered my OOTD around Good Row Clothing's sleeveless a-line.  Made of 95% polyester and 5% spandex, this dress is super soft and cozy. It kind of feels like felt?  It's hard to describe, but it feels nice, like I'm wearing a (really fashionable) blanket or something, ha.  As a plus, this dress is flattering for all body types. Remember my article "9 Ways to Hide Muffin Top with Fashion?"  This is a great example of no. 6.

I styled my top with a cropped cardigan (I've had it for years now)!  I thought about wearing jewelry but passed on it because of the cowl neckline. I could've thrown on a pendant necklace but thought it'd look better without it.  I carried my fave bucket bag (from Marc Jacobs) and threw on nude heels to elongate my legs.  Note: I'm wearing Hanes tights for additional warmth!

9 Ways to Hide Muffin Top With Fashion

Alright guys, let's be real.  It's wintertime, and many of us - ahem, me - have packed on a few extra pounds.  To be honest, I've always been really self-conscious about my mid-section, even when I was super in shape  - I was a fitness nut back in NYC circa 2008!  No one could tell because I looked fine, but it didn't matter because I wasn't happy with my body.  I've always wanted to reach the Hollywood standard but was too lazy and undisciplined. I'm taking major steps to change that all now, but I'll save that conversation for another time.  In the meantime, I'm going to drop some serious knowledge on y'all! Obviously, the best way to beat muffin top is to exercise, but the second best way is to read my post, ha!  Just to be clear, this post is NOT about body shaming - I believe beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.  So, without further ado, let's get crackin':

1.  High-waisted bottoms are a godsend.  Think of them as your wardrobe BFFs - reliable, comfortable, and flattering.  They mask your midsection by highlighting your natural waist while conveniently elongating your legs. Trust me when I say you want to avoid low-rise cuts like the plague.  Unless you have zero back fat, they'll cinch and accentuate your bod in the worst way possible.  If you're not a fan of the high-waist, try mid-rise.  It's not quite as forgiving, but it still works.  Note:  I actually mentioned this tip in my article, "How-to: Look 10lbs Lighter."

2.  Throw on a pair of spanx.  This may be a no-brainer for some of you, but I'm listing it anyway.  If you don't own shapewear at this point of your life, you need to go pick some up stat because you're missing out, like, this is where the party's at.  You will seriously look a size (or two) smaller with it on, and it looks super natural because it magically smooths your figure out.  I personally like high-waisted boyshorts, but camisoles work well too.
1 || 2 || 3 || 4 || 5 || 6

3.  Avoid cropped outerwear altogether.  Fight muffin top by covering it up!  A long cardigan will do wonders for your bod.  It'll elongate like whoa while camouflaging your midsection.  If you want more shape, belt your cardi for an hourglass silhouette!  A fitted blazer will also do the trick, and as a plus, you'll instantly add polish to your look.

4.  Don't wear clingy tops.  Go for loose - but not baggy - pieces that have movement. Make sure you pay attention to draping.  Your top should have weight to avoid a potentially unflattering fit. Thick, structured tops are extremely forgiving.  Slinky materials, on the other hand, will enhance bulges. Stick with forgiving fabrics like chiffon and purchase a few long tops as well.  They should hit you mid-thigh to slenderize your thighs and cover your midsection.

5.  Go for pieces with empire waists. They emphasize the narrowest part of your upper body, which in turn draws the eye away from your midsection.  Try wearing a peplum top - it's super girly and cute! If that doesn't really float your boat, you can create a similar illusion with flashy jewelry.  Throw on an eye-catching necklace to call attention to your neckline instead of your problem area/s.
6.  Rock a dress! In my opinion, they're far more flattering (and comfortable) than pants anyways. Keep an eye out for cute shifts and a-lines.  If you're not a fan of boxy silhouettes, no worries!  You can always throw on a skinny belt to create an hourglass figure.

7.  Sport darker colors up top.  Actually, when in doubt, just wear black, ha.  Just kidding but not really. I'm not going to elaborate on this rule because I think it's self-explanatory, but there's one thing you should keep in mind.  All black is obviously hella flattering, but you can wear the color strategically as well. If you're heavy up top, wear a black dolman shirt.  If you're looking to minimize your legs/booty, throw on a pair of dark high-waisted bottoms. The contrast will amplify the color's effect.

8.  Size up.  It'll make a huge difference - you'll look hotter and feel so much more comfortable. Frankly, I don't get why people obsess over sizing. Wear what looks best. Period.  It's not like you have your size printed on the front anyways, and even if you did, who cares?  If someone gives you flack about your body, it's a reflection on them, not you.

9.  Colorblock like nobody's business.  Choose pieces with black paneling on the side! They'll shave off serious pounds.
I hope you guys find these tips helpful!  I'd love to hear your tricks so make sure you comment below!  Also, I'm currently taking requests for posts so let me know if you want me to cover something in particular.

Workwear Wednesday: The Checkered Coat

Alright guys, it's time for another office-friendly post!  I centered today's look around my new skirt courtesy of Grey State.  This piece is a wardrobe fave because it's super comfy yet sophisticated!  If you're a fan of James Perse, you'll absolutely love GS's line.  They do such a wonderful job with luxe casualwear.  Anywho, I paired my new skirt with a casual gray crop for comfort. I then threw on a checkered coat and scarf on top to tie everything together.  I made sure to stick with a simple color scheme for max polish.

Gentle Fawn: The Tencel Button-front

I'm all about plaid today on Sensible Stylista.  I centered today's OOTD around my new Gentle Fawn button-front.  For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, they're a wonderful contemporary line known for their distinctive prints and graphics - their brand oozes California cool. Their clothing is casual with just the right amount of femininity, and they always use high-quality fabrics.  My top is made of 100% tencel so it's super soft!  If you're interested in purchasing one for yourself, clicky here - it's currently on sale so y'all lucked out.

Anywho, I kept things simple for today's look.  I styled my top with black skinny jeans and threw on matching boots to elongate my legs.  To look leaner AND taller, you want to create one long, uninterrupted line!  I then topped my look off with a moto jacket to add some edge.  Tip:  make sure your hardware matches.  For example, if you're wearing a jacket with gold zippers, carry a bag with gold deets. Unless you're deliberately mixing metals (see examples here), you want to follow the aforementioned rule for a "clean" look.
For those of you looking for a new moto jacket, here are few of my faves (at varying price points) for your browsing pleasure:

How-to work Poshmark like a Pro

I don't know about you guys, but I'm all about making easy money on the side! If you're looking to make some extra cash, clean out your closet and list your unwanted items on Poshmark. Now, when I say "unwanted," I don't mean ratchet.  I'm not telling you to list ragged stuff no one wants. I'm talking about gently worn clothing, clothing that's brand new without tags, or clothing that's brand new with tags.  I've sold my clothing and accessories for years now.  I've tried various platforms, and in my humble opinion, Poshmark is by far the best.  So, that brings me to today's post! I'll be sharing all my tips with you guys so that y'all can sell like bosses, too!
1.  Model your clothing.  Trust me, it makes a huge difference - you'll sell much more in the long run if you do so. Don't get me wrong, I love flat lays; they're super cute and all, but I've found that customers prefer to see others wear whatever it is they're looking to buy.  Remember to shoot from different angles and if you can, take your photos outside - natural lighting trumps indoor lighting any day. Also, make sure you take close-up shots of cute details.  Ex. if the buttons on your shirt are special, mention it in your description and snap a pic!

2.  List info on fabric and care.   I don't know about you, but when I'm out shopping I take everything into consideration regardless of the price.  I don't care if it's Forever 21 or Maxmara, I want to know what the fabric is and how to take care of it.  Everyone machine washes, but not everyone takes their stuff to the cleaners so if it's dry clean only, it could be a dealbreaker.  I mean, technically, if he or she doesn't ask, it's their "fault," but you want to make sure your customer's happy.  Take an extra second to enter this info in while creating your listing to facilitate sales in the future. Regarding fabric, study the label and enter it in exactly as written.

3.  Provide measurements.  I know this may seem like a hassle, but it's really not as bad as it sounds! Keep a retractable tape measure handy when you're updating your Poshmark closet so you can quickly enter 'em in as you create your listing.  Chances are, your customer will ask you what they are anyways.  I mean, think about it from their perspective.  They're shopping online, so unless they've tried the exact piece on in-person at another store, they don't know anything about the size since it varies from brand to brand. Save yourself time and do it while you're writing your description so you don't have to dig it out later on.

4.  Have some fun with your listing!  Make sure it's informative but interesting.  Don't just write, "blue shirt, size small."  Who wants to buy that? It wouldn't kill you to use some adjectives.  Is it a cobalt blue, a sky blue, or a turquoise?  Where can he or she wear it out and what should they wear it with? Remember, you want to be specific in your description.  Here's a sample for you guys:  "This teal top is super versatile - it transitions beautifully from work to play! Pair it with fitted dress pants for a chic, office-friendly ensemble or style it with a sequin mini for a fun night out with friends. This top is a size small, and it fits true to size - length: 23", shoulder to hand:  17", bust: 34".  This fab top's made of 100% polyester but it feels like chiffon.  Care: machine wash cold."

5.  If you're selling pre-loved clothing, be honest and upfront.  Make sure you list ALL flaws! Also, avoid using filters on your pictures - as mentioned above, natural light looks way better anyways - because you might inadvertently mislead your customer by accidentally masking imperfections. Here's a sample for your reference:  "This maroon skater skirt is absolutely adorable - it's pre-loved, but I've only worn it twice so it's in near perfect condition with 0 flaws whatsoever.  It's a size XS, but it's made of rayon/polyester/spandex blend so the material has a bit of give. Perfect for a warm summer day!"

6.  Be active!  Poshmark hosts themed parties every night so share listings when applicable.  If you're looking to get more followers on the app, go on a massive follow spree.  Most poshers will follow back, and if they like what they see, the offers will start rolling in.  Also, if you're active on other social media platforms, cross promote!  Let your friends and family know that you're selling.  One last tip for y'all, make friends with other poshers by sharing cute items from their closets.  I'm convinced that posh karma's a thing, ha!  In all seriousness though, they'll usually reciprocate, and more eyeballs mean more money - cha-ching!

7.  Always follow-up.  Even if this isn't your main source of income, you're still technically running a small business.  If you plan on selling for a long time, you want to make sure that your customers are pleased!  Maintain good relationships with them, and always thank them for their business.  You want to make sure you hook them and turn them into repeat customers.  Now, how do you do that? Provide stellar customer service.  I've already taught you how to write a killer description so all you have to do at this point is be friendly, courteous and prompt!

8.  Ship your parcel with care.  Don't just shove your clothing in a box because you feel lazy - that's straight-up disrespectful.  Take time to fold your clothing nicely, and if you're shipping something pre-loved, iron it!  How would you feel if you got a crappy package in the mail with a wrinkly shirt stuffed inside.  You want your customer to feel special!  They spent good money on you, and they deserve a great product in return.  Go to Walmart and pick up some tissue paper - you can get 40-some sheets for like $3.  Then head on to TJ Maxx to get some thank you cards in the clearance section!  If you don't have any boxes at home, don't fret - just go to usps.com and have free shipping supplies delivered to your home. Wrap your package nicely, throw in a personalized card, place it in a box, and then schedule a pick-up with USPS.  Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!

If you guys have any questions, tweet me, email me, leave me a comment, whatever!  I promise to answer ASAP. I have over 129k+ followers on there (view my closet here) and quite a bit of experience so I'm confident I can help.  Anywho, what do you guys like to do with your old clothes? Are you familiar with Poshmark?

Photos are NOT mine - uploaded from Pinterest and Poshmark.

Workwear Wednesday: The Printed Tunic

I'm super excited to partner up with Old Navy again on Sensible Stylista.  If you missed my previous collab with them, clicky here.  For today's OOTD, I styled a semi-cozy winter look for y'all.  This winter's been cray - it's super warm one day and straight up freezing the next.  It's seriously giving me whiplash.  I honestly kind of wish mother nature would make up her mind!  If she ever does though, I hopes she goes with the former not the latter, ha.

Anywho, I centered today's outfit around two classic staples that are both available at Old Navy:  a B&W printed tunic and a pair of black high-rise zip pants.  Although both items are cute, I really, REALLY recommend buying the bottoms because they're seriously the cutest and comfiest dress pants I own.  That's saying a lot because I own a gazillion pairs!  These are made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex so you have some give - the medium-weight twill has added stretch.  The cut's very flattering, too - there are central seams that run down the front and back leg elongating your figure. The vented ankle backs add a fun but chic touch!  FYI, I'm wearing a size 2 - I'd say it's comparable to a 25-26.  Also, make sure you guys take advantage of their current promo!  They're offering an extra 20% off with code MORE4LESS.  Run, don't walk, because this ends today!
Vest:  Sosie ($49.95) || Pants:  c/o Old Navy ($27) || Top:  c/o Old Navy ($15.97) || Watch + Bracelet:  The Peach Box || Shoes:  Candie's || Bag:  Badgley Mischka

One last thing before I leave you guys - I shared my first official solo piano video on YouTube yesterday.  I'm going to be much more active on my channel this year so make sure y'all subscribe. Also, let me know if you have any requests for vlogs and whatnot!

There is a light that never goes out

Alright guys, today's post is summery and whatnot because it was taken during my trip to Orlando. Every year my parents and I trek down there with Daisy (my maltese pup) to escape the cold and have a wonderful vacay, but we had a truly horrible experience with Hyatt Grand Cypress this time.  I won't release details now, but I'm going to write a lengthy post on it soon so keep an eye out!

Let's skip the unpleasantries for now and talk fashion because I'm really excited to tell you guys about my new dress courtesy of Sosie.  This airy piece will make you feel like a total goddess - a modern-day Aphrodite if you will, ha.  If you're a fan of girly dresses, you'll fall head-over-heels in love at first sight.  Although this dress is made of 100% polyester, it feels and looks like chiffon!  I'm wearing a size small but it fits loosely so if you're super petite, you'll probably want to pass because this item's not available in xs.  Please let me know if you have any questions!  Tweet me, leave a comment, email me, whatevs - I'm always here for you guys!  One last thing before I leave y'all, if you want to pick one up for yourself, enter code Stylista20 at checkout to get an extra 20% off your purchase.
Also, here are some other feminine dresses for your browsing pleasure - just in case this one doesn't tickle your fancy:
