July 2013 - Sensible Stylista

Remix: The Little White Dress

For today's look, I've remixed a LWD that I featured previously - clicky here for the aforementioned post - on Sensible Stylista. As an everyday girl, I find myself re-wearing pieces VERY often, and there's absolutely NO shame in doing so.  In fact, it pushes and develops my creativity!  It's really fun to see how many cute ensembles I can put together, and I like to think (har har) that I come up with some really cool combinations.

I've kept things clean & crisp by accessorizing with white pieces.  This J. Crew Factory statement necklace was a recent purchase. I got it for SUCH a good price. but I still have to go back and get a price adjustment.  J. Crew Outlets give students & teachers an extra 15% off their total purchase, but since I bought this online I wasn't able to get the additional discount.
Whatever.  I have no shame!  When I was younger, I used to get really embarrassed when my mom would present coupons and shamelessly ask for discounts, but I was clearly lost! I now see the error of my ways, haha.  She definitely had the right idea! TIP: Don't be afraid to ask for an additional discount, especially if there's an issue with the merchandise (ie. marks on shoes, scratches on bags, etc.).  You'd be surprised how often they oblige.  Also, make a habit of asking salespeople about current promotions.

Ivory Tower of Couture

Today's post features a girly lace dress from a Korean boutique.  I haven't been to Asia in a while, but that's probably a good thing because my savings account would seriously suffer. Anyways, a friend of mine was going to throw this adorable number out (!!!), so I quickly jacked it from her (I'm kind of a ninja like that).  I gotta say, one of the greatest perks of having super stylish friends = their awesome hand-me-downs. Ya'll know how much I love free swag.
Dress:  Lenova - gifted
Sunnies: Coach Factory Outlet
Belt:  Apt. 9 via Kohl's (2 for $10)
Necklace:  c/o Statement Baubles
Shoes:  Candie's via Kohl's ($32)
Bag:  Louis Vuitton - borrowed

On a random note, I'm really excited to FINALLY see "This is the End" later.  I've wanted to see it for WEEKS!  I love Seth Rogen so much.  Have you guys seen it? What movies do ya'll want to see?

Mixing Prints: Polka-dots + Florals

For today's post, I've decided to feature two of my favorite prints: florals and polka dots. Although these patterns are busy & bold, they work extremely well together because they share similar color schemes that unify the outfit, ultimately creating a cohesive whole.
I wore a dainty nameplate necklace for simplicity's sake.  The last thing I wanted to do was over-accessorize!  I threw on ivory wedges and grabbed a trendy Kate Spade clutch to complete the look.
Bag:  Kate Spade
Skinnies:  Madewell
Necklace:  Baublebar
Shoes:  Candie's via Kohl's ($32)
Top:  Forever 21 (originally $20, now on sale for $14)

What "rules" do you follow when mixing prints?  Any tips you'd like to share?

Summer Staple: The Little White Dress

Lucky Magazine recently invited me to participate in their Dasani styling contest, so for today's outfit post, I'll be sharing my submission with you all.  It'd mean SO much to me if you guys could vote for my look by clicking here.  It'll only take a second, I promise!
Anyways, I was supposed to feature a look that was inspired by the flavors of Dasani Drops.  I chose to style a little-white-dress that I recently won from LAST NIGHT (I love winning free swag).  I paired the strapless paisley LWD with a bold yet lightweight blazer for contrast and threw on matching red heels to unify the look.
I accessorized with a classic Chanel bag and stunning statement necklace courtesy of Statement Baubles Jewelry.  This versatile piece is already a wardrobe staple.  Clicky here to purchase! Statement necklaces are definitely my go-to accessories!

How-to: Wear Tribal Print

Today's outfit of the day is a very casual summer look.  My skirt's formfitting, so I made sure to pair it with a loose tee.  Balance is crucial when sporting a tighter piece, especially during the day. Mini-skirts are super versatile, and they transition beautifully into Fall. TIP: A scandalous mini-skirt becomes classy when paired with opaque black tights.  Don't forget to throw on black heels to elongate your legs.

Top:  Mudd via Kohl's ($7)
Necklace:  Off Saks Fifth ($20)
Wristlet:  Coach Factory Outlet
Shoes:  Jessica Simpson via TJ Maxx ($30)
Sunnies:  Marc by Marc Jacobs
