Summer's Hottest Trends: The Shorts Edition

It's summertime, and that means it's time to bust out the shorts! Finally, you can ditch the leggings and boyfriends jeans, and start wearing some trendy cut-offs! Here are a list of this summer's top five shorts trends:

1. High-Waisted Shorts

This trend has been in for a while, but it's still going strong! If you guys already own these from past summers, get some cute tops to create new outfits.

Save: Romwe $13                                                  Splurge: Urban Outfitters $138

2. Pin-Up Shorts

These shorts are a variation on the aforementioned high-waisted trend; they're definitely specific though. They're typically tight black shorts that go above the belly button. They're also sometimes called "sailor shorts" aka pin-up shorts with buttons across the sides.

Save: Rue 21 $20                                   Splurge: Urban Outfitters $39

3. Asymmetrical Shorts

I love this trend because it's fairly new!  These shorts are similar to the classic 90's skort. The piece has a panel that's diagonal, which makes the front look asymmetrical.

Save: Choies $14                               Splurge: Nasty Ga $68

4. Rompers

These aren't technically shorts, but they have shorts attached therefore they make the list! Rompers were in a few years ago - they never really fully went away, but this summer they're coming back strong. There are tons of different styles, but my personal favorites are ones that have really loose legs - they look like dresses until you start walking.

Save: Nordstrom Rack $20                        Splurge: Revolve $142

5. Embellished Shorts

Sequins and studs may seem like things of the past, but they're making a comeback. Any of the aforementioned trends can be embellished - just add sequins, studs, or lace.  You could even DIY! I personally like shorts with embellished pockets sticking out underneath (pictured below on the right).

Save: Target $15                                                       Splurge: American Eagle $50

What do you guys think of these trends? Do you think you'll be purchasing any new items? Which one's your favorite?

From the Inside Out

Time for another casual OOTD today on Sensible Stylista.  I know I featured Almost Famous yesterday on the blog, but I couldn't resist showcasing them again.  I centered today's look around my new high-waisted shorts.  I paired them with a simple crop and accessorized with a chic hat from Arth - an incredible hat boutique in NYC!  I used to shop their store ALL the time back when I lived in the Big Apple.  It's located right next to the Grom in Columbus Circle.  I used to buy gelato and browse their collection.  Good times all around - happy eyes, happy tummy! Anywho, I wish I could link y'all but unfortunately I don't have product URLs for you guys today.  I'll make sure to share similar options below though!
Shorts:  c/o Almost Famous || Top:  c/o Almost Famous || Bag: Deb - old || Hat:  Arth Hats

Here are some awesome hats for you guys to browse (different price points)...
..and of course, polka dot short options for y'all as well!

My VA Beach Trip

Hey guys! I hope you all had an amazing 4th.  I had a really fun week - this summer's been amazing. I was vacationing in Virginia Beach with the fam!  I had such an awesome time there.  Incredible food (for the most part, ha) + relaxing in the sun = heaven.  They had a lot of awesome events on the boardwalk, and their aquarium was surprisingly nice.  I say "surprisingly" because I have high standards - the one in Baltimore is totally BAMF.

Anywho, VA beach is def. not glamorous by any means, but the company was great so I'm not complaining.  I've got to say though, their food was on point.  I was REALLY surprised.  If you're ever in the area, check out Terrapin & Judy's Sichuan Cuisine.  They were RIDICULOUS!  The best American and Chinese food I've EVER had.  Bold statement, but even my parents agree.

Alright, enough about my travels.  Let's talk fashion!  For today's OOTD, I styled a casual look for you guys.  I stuck with a simple color scheme: gray, cream, and gold, and I centered my outfit around my new Almost Famous top.  You guys know how I feel about their clothing!  I'm seriously their no. 1 fan.  Their line is so stylish and affordable - I really couldn't ask for more.
The crochet detailing on the sleeves = money.  I tied the top to show a sliver of skin - it IS summer after all.  This piece is also work-friendly.  Pair it with white pants and gray pumps, and you're good to go!
A close-up shot of my new bag c/o Avber.  Isn't this piece super cute?  I can't get over how adorable the bow is.  Although this item's made of faux-leather, the quality's VERY good.  Here's some info for you guys...
