The Checkered Scarf

Alrighty y'all, it's confession time: I shot today's ensemble last week because... I'm currently in MI recording piano stuffs.  You already know this if you're following me on good ol' snapchat though - my handle's @sensiblestylist if you want to tag along.  I actually skipped Workwear Wednesday last week because I ended up collaborating with STI:L - clicky here if you want to see the aforementioned post.  I made sure to feature an office-friendly look for you guys today though so don't be mad! Warning, today's post is pic heavy!

Tonight Belongs To You

I'm SO sorry about today's post - it's hella short because I'm running late!  I'm flying out to MI today for piano stuffs, and I still need to pack and run a bajillion errands soooo I'll leave you guys with my look + short description!  OH, and before I forget, if you wanna be a part of my adventure, add me on snap! My handle's @sensiblestylist. Okies, now let's talk about today's LOTD.  I centered my latest around my new dress from Banana Republic (copped on sale for $20).  I paired it with my LA Made blazer (available here) and cinched the ensemble with a statement belt.

Workwear Wednesday: Getting Dressed With Old Navy

For today's work-friendly look, I've partnered up with Old Navy to create a fun but polished outfit for you guys.  I started with a simple monochrome base: gray shoes, gray skinnies, and a gray bag.  I then threw on a checkered button-front.  The top I'm wearing below is sold out, but you can get a similar version HERE for $22.  Anywho, the outfit, at that point, was decent but felt "blah" because it lacked personality.  I knew I needed a little extra "oomph" so I topped it off with my new plaid peacoat (available HERE for $35 in various colors).  Color really makes a big difference IMO!  If you're on the shyer side, no worries, just start small.  Try wearing a colorful statement necklace or throwing on a vibrant scarf!

Pajama Pants for the Office

Alright guys, I'm pumped to tell y'all about my new pants from Gap.  These bottoms are ridiculously comfortable - they're like pajama pants for the office, ha.  Made of 100% rayon, they have interior drawcord ties with an elasticized back waistband.  They seriously just look like printed dress pants though.  Good call on the hidden drawstring, designers!  Regarding fit, they lie low on the waist, and they're fairly loose - they still look polished though because they taper towards the bottom. For those of you interested, these pants are available here in green floral and gray - the version I'm wearing below is (unfortunately) sold out.

Anywho, let's talk a bit more about today's OOTD.  I paired my joggers with a neutral sweater to match and threw on a moto jacket for a bit of edge. I carried my Prada saffiano and wore my fave heels from Castro to top things off.  If I could go back in time, I'd accessorize with a fun statement necklace! Oh well. I was in a hurry because I set my alarm for 6:30 PM instead of AM, oy. I hate when I do stupid stuff like that, ha.  What do you guys think of these pants?  Would you wear 'em to work?  If so, how would you style them?

The Tiered Crepe Dress

I'm all about my new crepe dress from Banana Republic.  Don't you just love the color?  I may or may not have a soft spot for all things mustard.  I know pros say yellows clash with asian skin tones, but I don't care.  I think it looks good, and that's all that matters.  Personal style is exactly that. Personal.  Wear what you want, when you want.  If you happen to like something that's trending, great!  If not, who cares.  Wear what makes YOU happy!  It's all about confidence anyways.
Anywho, if you're interested in this dress, make sure you pick it up STAT because it's currently on sale HERE for $49.99 - it was originally $140 so you're getting a good deal.  This dress is made of 100% polyester, but it feels like silk.  Like all BR designs, this item is quality.  Everything from the fabric to the cut is legit.  The graceful tiers will ooze sophistication and elegance, and as a plus, you'll get tons of wear out of it because it works all year long - wear it sans jacket in warm weather and layer like nobody's business in the Fall & Winter.

It was fairly warm today so I threw on a light jacket and walked out the door.  Man, the weather here has been giving me serious whiplash.  It's freezing one day and totally warm the next. I have NO idea what's going on, but I def. don't mind the spring-y weather.  Mid-60s? Uh, yes please. Andddd I totally just got off topic.   Again.  Sorry!  I'm kind of all over the place right now.  Let's get back to today's look!  I picked my jacket up at Saks Off Fifth a few months ago.  I fell in love with the design at first sight and bought it without thinking twice - it's Free People in case you were wondering. Now, to finish off today's OOTD, I carried my Coach crossbody (you can never go wrong with a bit of animal print) and accessorized with my fave tassel necklace!

Inspired by The Good Wife

I'm beyond excited to partner up with Lafayette 148 New York today on Sensible Stylista.  I drew style inspiration from the TV show, "The Good Wife" and created a classic look for you guys. Alicia Florrick, the title character of the show, always looks polished and sophisticated. Are any of you guys fans of the show?  What do you guys think of her style?
For today's OOTD, I centered my look around my new coat courtesy of Lafayette 148 (available here in four different color pairings).  I paired it with gray skinnies and an oversized sweater for a chic yet comfortable look.  I accessorized with a classic tote but injected personality with a pair of kick@$$ heels.  I purchased these shoes from Saks Off Fifth a while back; they were on sale for $30!  A hell of a deal if you ask me because they're Charles Jourdan - they typically run $200+.
Oh, did I mention that my coat's reversible? Ta-da!  I'm not sure which side I like more so I'm going to ask you guys.  Do you prefer the black or the gray?

The Laser-Cut Trench

Alright guys, I'm super excited to share today's work-friendly look with y'all. I centered my OOTD around my new laser-cut trench courtesy of Donna Degnan.  It's definitely a wardrobe fave.  It adds just the right amount of edge to any and every ensemble.  For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, their label's all about effortless sophistication.  They were founded on the belief that women should look chic on all occasions.  Now, this trench IS an investment, but it's worth every penny IMHO!  I highly recommend picking up one for yourself, especially since it's on sale HERE.
Everything else I'm wearing today is old!  My dress pants are from Madewell, my shoes are from Castro (available here for $26.77), and my top's from H&M.  I'll make sure to link similar items for you guys below since I don't have product URLS listed.

8 Pieces, 8 Ways: Finale

Oh man, I can't believe this is my last look for "8 Pieces, 8 Ways!"  How sad.  I'll have to do another style challenge soon because I had a blast doing this one.  What should I tackle next?  I've been thinking about trying Kendi's 30x30 remix.  Have you guys heard of that one?  I'd love to hear your thought!  Leave me a comment below or hit me up on social.

Anywho, let's talk fashion.  For today's OOTD, I paired my Ann Taylor turtleneck with my Talbots pencil skirt.  I wore my Theory blazer on top for a sophisticated vibe but took it off because I got hot shooting.  Hashtag blogger problems, ha.  I carried my prada tote and threw on fierce ankle-strap heels to kick everything up a notch.  To finish off my look, I belted my skirt to highlight the small of my waist - you guys know how much I love visual illusions.  Yay for a faux-hourglass shape, ha! Today's ensemble is a solid work-friendly look.  It's not particularly unique, but it's classy and comfortable.  I've been a fan of polished outfits like these as of late.  What do you guys think - yah or nah? I promise I won't get offended if you don't dig this look!
Just in case you'd like to shop my look:

8 Pieces, 8 Ways: Part 6

For part 6 of my style challenge (rules can be viewed here), I put together an office-friendly look for you guys since it's Workwear Wednesday and all.  To start, I paired my classic Polo button-front with my Talbots pencil skirt.  I could've worn my Theory blazer on top, but I went with my faux-leather moto jacket instead for some edge.  I feel like leather (or high-quality pleather) always adds a bit of badassity.  Moving on, my ankle-strap heels are a step up from simple, black pumps because of their mesh detailing. Even if you can't mess around with work basics, you can still keep things fun with accessories - at least that's how I turn up while maintaining a polished, professional vibe.
Here's a close-up shot of my necklace.  I absolutely love this piece.  I got it from InPink ages ago, and I'm still a huge fan.  Unfortunately, it's no longer available online, but I'll make sure to link something similar for you guys below. I really enjoy wearing chokers underneath collars because they look built-in.

Funky Pants

Alright everyone, it's time for my weekly office-friendly look!  I centered today's OOTD around my BCBG pants.  I bought these way back in the day, but they sat in the back of my closet because I didn't have the confidence to wear them out.  While I was going through my closet and figuring out what to keep, sell, and donate, I finally decided that it was time to man up!
I decided to stick with a neutral color scheme for today's look.  I styled my high-waisted bottoms with a ruffled tank and a chic blazer for a polished, sophisticated vibe.  Since I don't have product links for you guys, here are other adorable options for y'all:
My top sans jacket.  I bought this tank at H&M a while back for $10.  I absolutely love their sales, but shopping their online store can be a pain since they don't accept returns in stores - hopefully they'll change their policy soon! Do you guys shop online often? If so, at what stores?

All About Tencel

I can't wait to tell you guys all about my new parka from Aeropostale.  This jacket is, hands down, my favorite piece of outerwear right now. It's made of 100% tencel, and it seriously feels like butter against my skin.  I'm a huge fan of the loose, slouchy fit because it oozes style with ease. For those of you interested, this piece is currently on sale here for $42.  Trust me, it's worth every penny!  I'm telling you guys, Aero's legit now. Now don't get me wrong, not everything is gold - they still sell their token "aero" graphic tees - but they carry some really cute designs.  I recommend browsing their Bethany Mota & Toyko Darling lines.
Anywho, let's move onto my dress (which is also made of tencel BTW)!  I styled it with my Aero parka for a monochromatic vibe. I think this pairing's tres chic, but I may or may not be biased, ha! This sleeveless number is a total must-have in my opinion though.  It's available HERE for $38 (originally $82).  Cop it while you can because, a) it's probably going to sell out soon, and b) you're going to get so much wear out of it.  It's comfy like the staple shirtdress, but as a plus, this piece has a self belt that strategically flatters by highlighting the small of one's waist.
Let's take a look at my dress sans parka!  Isn't it super cute? I love that the back's slightly longer! I don't have to worry about flashing someone because of the shirt tail hem, ha.  I kept things simple on the accessory front by simply incorporating a pop of animal print.  I threw on my current fave heels to finish off the look.  I featured these shoes HERE a couple days ago - clicky if you missed my collab with Castro!  Also, if you're interested in purchasing a pair yourself, simply click HERE.  I guarantee that you'll love these.

Sensible Stylista x Castro

I'm beyond excited to partner up with Castro today on SS.  I recently discovered them online, and I'm a huge fan already.  Their collection is elegant, classy, and effortlessly stylish.  I wanted to feature a trendy yet polished look for you guys so I centered today's OOTD around a chic drape jacket.  This lightweight piece is a dream for transitional weather.  The design's sophisticated, and the quality's on point (comparable to BCBG).  I'm wearing it in stone, but it's also available in black HERE.  For $63.33, this piece is a steal - you're getting designer clothing for a fraction of the price.  FYI, this item fits true to size.  I'm wearing an XS below!
I paired my jacket with a matching blouse that I picked up at Off Saks a week ago.  I was pumped because I found IRO - one of my favorite brands - in the sale racks.  I could've gone monochrome, but I decided to wear faux-leather instead for texture.  To finish off the look, I accessorized with a bold bag and shoes.  Animal print is always a good idea - just make sure you don't go overboard.  We want tasteful not tacky!
A close-up of my accessories.  FYI, my bag's from Coach.  I purchased it recently from their online factory outlet.  I'm officially a fan because they've really stepped up their game!  Coach is different now.  Their BS (bags + shoes, ha) are super cute, and they no longer plaster their logo on all their items.  Moving on, let's talk shoes.  These babies are pricey (available here for $79.23), but I promise that you'll get tons of wear out of them.  They look amazing with any and everything.  Heads up, they don't sell half sizes.  I recommend sizing down - I'm a 6.5, and their 6 fit me perfectly.  If you're looking to step up your shoe game, purchase these STAT.

The Animal Print Skirt

I love Wednesdays because I get to share my work-friendly looks with you guys.  I'm especially excited to tell you about today's post because I'm wearing a fabulous "new" skirt - FYI, new is in quotation marks because it's a hand-me-down.  My mom gave me this piece recently, and it's quickly becoming a favorite because I may or may not (I totally do) have an obsession with animal print.  I wish I had a product link to share, but unfortunately, my mom bought this years ago so it's no longer available online.  Here are other adorable options for you to browse though:
I styled my pencil with a classic tank to keep things clean.  Animal print can be quite bold so if you want to play it "safe," wear one piece at a time and pair it with neutrals like I did below.  BTW, this was totally unintentional, but my cardi, bag, and shoes magically match - that definitely worked in my favor because the hue creates a cohesive whole.  Finally, to top off today's OOTD, I threw on a chunky statement necklace from Sparkles & Pop.
A close-up shot of my jewelry!  I absolutely love Sparkles & Pop.  Make sure you guys check them out.  I guarantee you'll love their online collection.  They seriously have something for everyone! Don't forget to register to get an extra 15% off + free shipping on your first order.

Remix: Cindy + Johnny Blazer

It's time for a remix! A while back, I partnered up with Cindy + Johnny to style their chic Dylan blazer - if you missed the aforementioned post, click HERE.  I loved the piece so much that I decided to re-style it today for Workwear Wednesday.  I started with a solid, neutral canvas (aka my black pencil skirt).  FYI, I bought it at Ann Taylor years ago, but you can find a skirt like this anywhere because it's a wardrobe staple. Stores like Banana Republic Factory Outlet, Talbots, and H&M carry quality versions.

I paired my skirt with a cute but comfortable tee.  I chose animal print because I wanted my look to stand out!  Think classic with a trendy twist.  I recently purchased this top at the Banana Republic Factory Outlet - it was really hard to resist because it was on sale for $7.  Plus, I could already see myself wearing it a million different ways.  I like to visualize different ensembles in my head when shopping - it helps me save money because I only let myself buy pieces I'll wear for sure.  If I can't style an item at least 3 different ways, I won't purchase it.

Skirt:  Ann Taylor (similar)
Shoes: Candie's (similar)

I threw on my C+J blazer on top to keep things professional.  I know I say this all the time, but blazers really do add polish and sophistication.  To top off my look, I accessorized with my Sparkles & Pop pendant necklace and carried my Bag Inc. leather tote.  Here's a close-up shot of my accessories.  On another note, I talk about the importance of the everyday tote HERE.  Click to read my article on, "4 Bags Every Girl Must Own."

The Cashmere Scarf

Oh how I love Workwear Wednesdays.  I centered today's outfit around my new dress from TJ Maxx.  It's Betsey Johnson, and I got it on sale for $39.99.  I don't usually wear her designs, but I instantly fell in love with this dress because it's simple, classy, and comfortable.  The color's extremely chic, and as a plus, the piece feels like a sweatshirt.  This will definitely be a cold weather staple because it'll keep me nice and warm, while still making a stylish statement.  I accessorized with ivory pieces to match - I've been loving neutral tones as of late.  My necklace is an oldie but a goodie.  I got it at Lemon Drop Boutique HERE a while back, and it's still one of my favorites.  They take the classic pearl necklace and give it a trendy twist with layers and extra bling.
Moving on, let's take a closer look at my new Chicory scarf.  This piece oozes luxury, but then again, cashmere always does.  For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, they're based in San Francisco, and they're all about high quality accessories.  They carry three different kinds of scarves:  cashmere knit, cashmere woven, and silk twill.  My scarf is 100% cashmere, and it's hand made in Italy.  Yeah, it doesn't really get much better than that... until you see that there's a mini-bow on it.  Isn't it super cute?  I feel like this is something Blair Waldorf would totally wear.  I may or may not have a TV crush on her, ha.

My Favorite Polka Dot Skirt

I'm all about my new Lime & Vine top today on SS. This chic top, made of 100% cotton, oozes serious steeze (style + ease) with its subtle weave pattern and delicate pleat detailing.  I'm wearing a size small because I like loose silhouettes, but an XS would've also fit!  For those of you interested, this piece is also available in cantaloupe and black HERE for $54.  I styled the top with one of my all time favorites.  I've had this polka dot pencil skirt for years now - I purchased it way back in the day at Forever 21 - and I still wear it all the time.  Their clothing's hit or miss so be careful when shopping.  They sell a lot of cute clothing, but their quality's sometimes "eh" due to shotty fabric. They do have gems though!  You just have to be patient and sift through everything because their stores are usually full to the brim.
Here's a full body shot for you guys!  I kept things simple on the accessory front because I wanted to rock a clean, classic look today.  However, my bag kind of doubles as a necklace because of its chain strap.  To finish off the ensemble, I threw on a pair of animal print pumps.  A pop of color (or a bold print in this case) really goes a long way.  I purchased these lovely shoes at Off Saks a few years ago so I don't a link for you guys. I'll make sure to link similar options below for both the skirt and shoes.

All I Have

A while back, my gorgeous intern, Zoe Luiz, wrote a fabulous article on Fall's hottest trends - click here if you missed the aforementioned post. To my excitement, she listed the chic yet comfortable sweaterdress.  I've been a fan of this piece for years now because, in my humble opinion, it's a classic.  Now, I love reading about fads, but trends come and go SO quickly.  Don't feel pressured to wear what's "in" at the time.  Wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful.  Now, if you happen to LOVE what's "hot," that's a totally different story - go crazy and have a ball!  Just make sure you don't buy something because it's popular.  If you're looking to experiment, I recommending shopping affordable stores like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe.  You don't want to splurge on something you'll only wear a few times!
Now, let's break down today's outfit of the day.  My Tahari dress is from TJ Maxx - I purchased it a year ago on clearance for a fraction of the price!  I absolutely love the design because it's classy and versatile. Because the design's "simple," I styled it with a beautiful silk scarf courtesy of VeVelle.
For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, they're a new line with an exclusive collection of luxury scarves.  Founded by Al Semerville in 2013, his love for exquisite garments was instilled at an early age.  He spent his teenage years enjoying the intricacies of couture and dreamt of using fashion as a vehicle to showcase the hidden treasures of Haitian and Caribbean culture.  After the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, Al put his dream in motion and created VeVelle.  Their scarves are made of 100% silk twill, chiffon or georgette.  My piece is called Pas De Trois, and it's available HERE.

Moving on to my bag! This piece holds a lot of sentimental value to me because it was a gift from my dad, AND it was my first designer purse.  He bought it for me in Asia during a business trip!  To be honest, when he gave it to me, I wasn't thrilled.  Don't get me wrong! I was SUPER grateful and moved by his generous gesture, but I didn't think the bag was particularly cute, ha.  I was a freshman in college, and I remember thinking, "man, I feel like a grandma carrying this around." I took really good care of it so it's in mint condition, which is awesome because I absolutely LOVE it now.  The simple design complements any and every ensemble, and the piece can easily be dressed up and down.  It goes to show how one's taste really evolves over time!  Do you guys have any pieces you initially disliked but grew to love?
Also, since I bought this dress last year, I don't have a link for you guys! Here are some other adorable options for y'all to browse:

Workwear Wednesday: My Scoobie Skirt Remix

A while back, I partnered up with Scoobie to style a fab work-friendly look for you guys.   If you missed the aforementioned post, click HERE.  I liked the skirt SO much that I decided to remix it today on SS for yet another office-appropriate ensemble.  Instead of styling it with a classic button-front, I chose to go with a bold, printed blouse that I recently purchased it at Talbots.  They were having a huge storewide sale so I copped this top for $30 or so.  Today's outfit works because both items (the skirt & top) share the same beige which creates a cohesive feel.  I didn't want to add "loud" accessories on top, so I kept things simple with a nude designer-inspired bag and a pair of cap-toed heels.

On another note, the Scoobie skirt I'm wearing below is currently on sale HERE for $35.50.  It was originally $71 so it's obviously a really great deal. I recommend purchasing it STAT!  It's seriously one of the cutest pieces I own, and the quality's legit - think Banana Republic meets BCBG. If you have any questions about the item, don't hesitate to tweet, comment, whatever.  You guys know that I'm always here for you!

Workwear Wednesday: The Printed Shift

Dear shift dresses, thank you for existing.  You make my life so much better, especially when I have fat days.  You know just how to make me feel pretty, ha.  In all seriousness though, shift dresses are the bees knees.  They're cute, comfortable, and super easy to style.  Simply throw a dress on, accessorize with a statement necklace, put on heels (black & neutral = classic standard), and grab your everyday bag.  Four very easy steps for an insanely chic ensemble.  If I'm in a rush, BOOM, my handy dandy formula saves the day!
I don't have any links for you guys today, BUT, I can share other fabulous options with you all.  Here are some other adorable shifts for you guys to browse (varying price points):

Let's take a closer look at my necklace!  My mom picked this piece up for me at Talbots a while back because it was on sale for $30!  I absolutely adore the design - it's timeless.  My mom has the BEST taste.  In fact, I'm going to feature her on SS one of these days.  I swear, she looks like she could be my sister!  Every time we go out, no one believes she's my mom.  I guess we just look like friends hanging out, ha. Let's hope her genes help ME out when I'm older *grins*

Sensible Stylista x Scoobie

I'm super excited to partner up with SCOOBIE today on SS for a work-friendly-ish post.  The -ish is there because you'd have to button up your top and possibly (probably, ha) swap sandals for pumps to really be office-appropriate.  Anyways, before we talk about my today's OOTD, I want to tell you all a bit about SCOOBIE.  Firstly, Sarah Jabbour (the owner) is a total sweetheart.  She has a true love for fashion, and she's all about helping people look and feel their best.  She's been working in retail since age 14 so she has an impressive amount of experience!  Recently, she left her 8-5 marketing job to focus on growing and developing SCOOBIE full-time.

Sarah's collection is beyond fabulous. She personally travels all around the US to hand-pick pieces to sell.  She doesn't buy off line sheets because she wants to feel the clothes firsthand before buying them to ensure quality.  Her goal is to find the best-of-the-best at the most reasonable price points possible.  If you live in MO or KS, you can check out her store/s in person - their addresses can be found here if you're interested.  However, her online collection is just as beautiful!  She sent me this gorgeous skirt to style, and I can't get over how cute it is.  It's available HERE for $71.
I styled the skirt with a classic button-front and accessorized with nude pieces to keep things simple.  The bright yellow lace is vibrant so I wanted it to take center stage without any competition.  The skirt's quality is comparable to that of Lilly Pulitzer or BCBG.
My top's from Ralph Lauren. They have the best button-fronts in my opinion.  I got this piece on sale for $29.99 at the outlet mall.  It was definitely a good buy because it was originally $80+.  Make sure you guys subscribe to their mailing list because they send coupons ALL the time.
